The JEAA’s Propertymark workshop was held on Tuesday 20 April and hosted by Stuart Moore of Propertymark. Gill Hunt, the Regional Executive for Jersey, welcomed everyone and moderated for the afternoon. A number of local member firms attended.
The first speaker was Katie Griffin, a past President of Propertymark and a Propertymark board director. Katie’s talk focused on the 3 ways of entering membership of Propertymark and made specific mention of the qualifications that are available to all members which represent “Your badge of professionalism” .She concluded by listing the advantages of membership.
Lindsay Archibald spoke next on the topic of “How to be a Social Media Success”. Her 30-minute presentation took members through how to be a Social Media success in “just ten minutes a day”, using the phrase “Know + Like = Trust”. Lindsay focused on the platforms best suited to the different demographic to boost brand awareness and position yourself as a local expert, thus winning more instructions.
Wayne Stanley from Santander International followed giving an overview of the mortgage proposition offered by the bank. As new entrants to the Jersey mortgage market, Wayne outlined why the bank are different in their approach and how the new Santander Work Café has already proved to be a huge success in attracting prospective mortgage customers. In addition, Wayne outlined some of the mortgage criteria and promoted that all decisions on mortgages are made locally and “in principle” decisions can be made quickly.
Carey Olsen, represented by Chris Philpott, Partner and lead lawyer on all commercial property transactions and Will Whitehead, an Advocate of the Royal Court of Jersey, who specialises in commercial property and regulatory matters, gave an update on share transfer transactions. Their presentation started with an interesting history of the share transfer process from the 1960’s to the present day and continued with the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing via share transfer.
Gill Hunt led a question and answer session and then closed the meeting by thanking all the speakers for their insightful presentations and the members for attending.
